Ok, so I don't even know how to tell this story... it was one of those "you had to be there" but it was so funny and random... so if it comes off lame I apologize and you really did have to be there.
So, I went to the Dollar store the other day to get some little things for church. Glow in the dark sticks to be exact. And I'm buying about $30 worth. I take them to check out and the guy says "Oh! These are the best kind! Great value for your money." I said oh, thanks. But I felt bad for the guy... he was in his late forties, early fifties and his career is a cashier at the Dollar store... I'm so not judging... I'm just feeling bad for the guy because he looks like he's had a really hard life.
So after he tells me what a good deal I'm getting on the glow sticks he proceeds to tell me that he spends quite a bit of money on the glow sticks. Still trying to be polite and make small talk. So I ask him why? And he goes on to tell me that his "Lady Friend" (his words not mine... made me giggle though) works down at a "club" in town as an "entertainer"... that her friends are "dancers" (aka strippers) but that she's not, she's an entertainer... he wanted to make sure (several) times that i knew that his lady friend was a classy kind of gal.
So by this time I have made my purchase, paid, bagged and have stood for five minutes listening to this random story that I have no clue where it's going. And I don't know if it's going to end so I slowly start making my way to the door. And he follows me. All the way out to the sidewalk. And we're standing, me and the Dollar store Cashier, out on the sidewalk in front of the store talking about glow sticks and his lady friend.
And apparently the point of the story (after almost twenty minutes) was that he loves to buy the glow sticks when he visits his lady friend and he gives them to the dancers and they love them! And they love him! And they always say thanks Lloyd for bringing us glow sticks... and it makes his whole day! Ok, so I added the "makes his whole day" part. But you could tell that it does because he was beaming from the compliments of the dancers.
I say "You go Lloyd!" You buy those quality go sticks and you continue to do your random acts of kindness for those dancers!
And the moral of the story is you just can't make stuff like that up. Isn't life fun!
ETA:
Haha! Lots of questions about why I was using the glow sticks... The glow sticks were to play Glow in the dark basketball. Everybody wore a glowstick (or glow necklace) around their neck and a glow bracelet and we played with a glow in the dark basketball with all the nights out. So much fun and a great suggestion by my cute friend Heidi! The kids loved it!!
