I know you've been missing tweet, tweet!  I'm happy to announce that its back!

 This week I'm THRILLED to introduce to you to my dear friend Jennie Little.

The first time I met Jennie was in the SLC airport (I flew in from Spokane and had a layover in SLC)... we were on our way to Nashville (back in the day when we all worked for the Scrapbook magazine)...  A group of us were going a few days early to see the sites of Nashville before we had to work... I knew the other women in the group but Jennie was new to me.  It took like two minutes talking to her and I felt like I'd known her for a million years.  She was definitely a kindred spirit.

We had so so so much fun in Nashville and from that time on we were inseparable (despite the fact that I lived in Washington and she lived in Utah).  We traveled most of the shows together, started being roommates when we traveled and the rest as they say is history.

Some of my favorite memories of Jennie...

1. Our first trip to Nashville... we were stuck in the backseat of the tourist car and sometimes wondered if we were ever going to make it to our destination alive (we definitely bonded over that).  On that trip we got to go to the Grand Ol' Opry and see Josh Turner live (be still my beating heart) and Jennie introduced to the joy that is fried pickles.  It is one of my all time favorite trips in the history of trips.

2. After a show in Seattle we stayed a few extra days to see the sites... we rode the Ferry to Bainbridge Island (and ruined the hotel umbrellas trying to get good pictures in the rain), went to visit Snoqualmie Falls and would go back to hotel at night and scrapbook and order movies...  definitely in my top five of favorite trips.

3. Talking in to the wee hours of the morning in our hotel room about anything and everything.  Jennie is an early to bed kind of girl... I am not... so I feel bad that I kept her up so many nights chatting... but we had so much fun.  I think one time we talked so late/early that she didn't go to bed at all... she just showered and left to catch her flight.

Jennie is one of my favoritest traveling buddy ever and a dear dear friend.  She's so easy and fun to be with.  She has an infectious laugh that warms my heart... she is happy and peppy and kind and wonderful and I love her more than words can express.

Tell us about yourself?

  

i am the only girl, with 3 brothers.  i grew up in colorado and moved to utah after my mission for the LDS church.  i met and married my husband when i was 29!!  it took me awhile to find the right one for me!!  :)  after being married for 8 years we were blessed with an amazing miracle baby girl!!  she is now a year old and the joy of our lives!!  she keeps us busy and we love every minute of it!! 

 

Three favorite trips you’ve taken:

 

~  hawaii when i was 20 years old.  this was a fun trip but i went alone- wish i had someone there with me!!

~  nashville for a ckc trip!!  i had an amazing time with amazing friends!!  fried pickles and josh turner!!  can't go wrong with that!!

~  disneyland when i was in high school with my best friend and her family!!  we had a blast and did soooo many things!!  i can't wait to take my family someday!!

  

 

Three things people don’t usually know about you?

  

~  the first 5 years of my life was spent in a teepee.  i was potty trained to a tree!!  (my mom was a hippy... could ya tell?)

~  i have 3 brothers... not just the 1 i grew up with  ... and i met my father  for the first time when i was 28 yrs old

~  i have a secret obsession with twisted phone cords!!  hate them!!  they need to be unraveled at all times!!

 

Three items on your “bucket list” 

  

~  see oprah somehow... not sure how with her new venture in life... but i will figure it out!

~  go on a cruise with my husband

~  travel to austrailia 

 

Three things about you like about yourself (features or qualities):

  

~  my nose... it is petite and cute... unlike the rest of me...

~  i am a people person.  i can usually get along with most people.  and i have a genuine care for them.

~  i am a creative person. 

 

Three struggles in your life?

  

~  weight

~  balancing being a good daughter with my mother living in my home

~  procrastination

 

In addition to God and family what are three things that you love:

  

~  reality tv!!  big brother, bachelor, survivor, amazing race, american idol, so you think you can dance... love it!!

~  rainy afternoons

~  my birthday and all of the hoopla that comes with it!!  :)

 

Brag for a minute.  What are three things that you're really good at?

  

~  paper crafting... i love it... i don't know if i am fabulous at it, but i sure enjoy doing it!

~  i love wrapping presents!!  i enjoy pulling out the ribbons and the bow... fun times!!

~  i think i am a pretty good mom.  abbi knows i love her and really, what else is there!!  :)

 

Please share a favorite recipe:

  

CHOCOLATE DELIGHT     

              

This is by far my all time favorite dessert. It was always the dessert that I picked for my birthday when I was growing up. You can use other flavors of pudding, but chocolate is my favorite. I think that it tastes best the next morning for breakfast!

2 cups flour

2 sticks marg/butter         

1 cup chopped walnuts

Combine and pat in 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 min. Cool.

Combine:                                                             

8oz cream cheese          

1 cup powder sugar          

8oz thawed whipped topping

Spread half of mixture on crust.

Make instant pudding (1 large or 2 small pkgs).

Pour pudding on mixture and then add remaining mixture on pudding.

Sprinkle with additional chopped nuts.

tweet, tweet let's meet: Andrea Brown

Andrea is a blog friend I haven't met in real life {yet}... but we have lots in common so I feel like I know her in real life.  We have mutual friends, we both attended BYU (I think we even overlapped a couple of years), we love celebrations, love creative things and good recipes and we both worked from home (she used to... I still do)... she's great at organization... I want to be great at organization... :)

We met through a mutual friends blog and have emailed back and forth over the years and even exchange Christmas cards... I've loved reading her blog and getting to know her better.  We have grand plans of meeting up in Utah some day.  Can't wait!

Tell us about yourself?

 

 I'm Andrea. I live in Canada (which is way too cold for my liking).  I have a husband, 7 year old girl, 5 year old girl, and almost 3 year old boy. Right now I drive a school bus, but there's only 42 more days of that :)

 

Three favorite trips you’ve taken:

 

 1. We love to go camping in Jasper. It's beautiful.

2. Caribbean cruise (back in the single days)
3. England/ Ireland (also back in the day)

 

 Three things people don’t usually know about you?

 

1. How old I really am. I look younger, and my kids are young, so everyone is surprised if they find out my age. (39)
2.  I served an {LDS} mission to two different places (Australia than got sick and finished in Canada).
3.  I got married much older than most (30) and my husband is younger than me.

 

Three items on your “bucket list” 

 

1. Go to Hawaii and Disneyland
2.  Build some furniture by myself.
3.  Go back to school for a masters.

Three things about you like about yourself (features or qualities):

 

 1.  That my hair is curly, but can also go straight. I like the versatility.
 2.  I'm good at purging/ organizing.
 3.  That I have faith and know things will all work out in the end.

 

Three struggles in your life?

 

 1.  Getting enough sleep. I haven't slept through the night for over 7 years and it makes me crazy.
 2.  Trying not to think of all the things I wish I had done different (saved more money, took a different degree in university, done this and that and on and on....)
 3.   Doing what I feel and think is best and ignoring what anyone else says or thinks. I'm influenced too much by others opinions or trying to make others happy and it never works out.

 

 In addition to God and family what are three things that you love:

 

1.  Summer and hanging out at the beach
2.  Reading
3.  Popcorn
 

 Brag for a minute.  What are three things that you're really good at

 

1. Playing the piano
2. Cleaning/ organizing
3. Driving. When I took my bus test the tester kept saying how great I did. (I like to remind my husband of that lots).

 

 Please share a favorite recipe: 

 

 Chipper Muffins

 

1 3/4 cups flour
1 cup chocolate chips
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

1 large egg
1 cup milk
1/3 cup cooking oil
1 tsp vanilla

Combine first 6 ingredients in medium bowl. Make a well in center.

Beat egg in small bowl. Add milk, cooking oil and vanilla. Stir.  Pour into well.  Stir until just moistened.  Grease 12 muffin cups with cooking spray.  Fill cups 3/4 full. Bake in 400F oven for about 200 minutes until golden, and wooden pick inserted in center of muffin comes out clean.  Let stand in pan for 5 minutes before removing to wire rack to cool.  Makes 12 muffins.

I met Liberty when we were five years old in ballet class... if we're being honest I don't really remember her though... but our mom's like to tell us the story :)  A few years later we moved and then Liberty's family moved and we ended up at the same Jr. High.  I knew who she was and we had a few classes together but we didn't hang out at all.

Our Sophomore year of High School we ended up in the same choir class and I was dating a boy in her ward.  Although not related those two things brought us together... we've been BFF's ever since.

We ended up being in Choir together for the rest of our High School years and worked together for two years on Yearbook staff.  Most of my favorite high school memories involve Liberty.

Some of my favorite Liberty memories:

Hours and hours of fun in her little white truck... dates, football games, school dances, church dances... we put a lot of miles on that truck.  Such happy fun memories!

Choir trip to Southern California... being roommates, both of our mom's coming on tour as chaperone's, singing at Disneyland, attending the San Diego Temple open house, going to Phantom of the Opera.  One of the funnest trips ever!

Lib doing my hair and helping me get ready in the Salt Lake Temple on my wedding day... I even wore her pearls on my wedding day because I forgot my jewelry :)

Visiting Lib in Chicago a few years ago... I think we scrapbooked for four days straight.  She introduced me to the joy that is Portillo's and was the best Chicago tour guide ever!!

Liberty is so talented and I've been the recipient of her talent countless times.  She is also very kind and loving.  We've shared some of the same struggles and she's been a wonderful support and friend over the years.

We talk almost every single day on IM and text on a regular basis.  I'm so grateful for her.... she's been such a blessing to me.  Everyone should be so lucky to have Liberty in their life.

Tell us about yourself:

I am 34 years old. I was born and raised in Utah. Ten years ago, my husband and I loaded up a 24' moving truck with our 2 year old son and all of our belongings and moved 1500 miles away from ALL of our family to live in Chicago, IL.  It has been the best adventure of our lives.

I am a stay at home mom. {and I'm busy ALL day long trying to get my stuff done before my son gets home from school}. I work about 5 jobs besides being a mother and wife. I run my own business of scrapbooking for other people. {that's because I'm all caught up, please don't hit me}. I am always working on a project, or ten. I make aprons and handbags and lots of other things, even though I just learned how to sew 2 years ago. 

Three favorite trips you’ve taken: 

We haven't taken very many trips, so this one is a little hard for me...but three of my favorite "getaways" are:

1 - I go on a "Scrapbooking Weekend" at least once a year and scrapbook for the WHOLE weekend. I usually finish between 60-100 pages in one weekend. It's one of the best getaways for me of the whole year.

2- I made a "surprise" trip home to Utah last September. My mom {and MaryRuth} were the only people who knew I was coming. It was SO fun to surprise everyone. I only stayed for 4 days, but it was such a GREAT trip for me.

3 - Because we live so close to Nauvoo, IL, we have been there many times since we moved to Chicago. We love it. It's one of our favorite places to go. It's a little pioneer town, we really "get away" from the world for the time we are there.

 

Three things people don’t usually know about you:

1-  I have texture issues with food. I don't like oatmeal, cooked fruit, fruit pies, cobbler, or anything that has a "wierd" texture.

2 - I met my husband while I was australian repelling {that means face first} on an 80' tower. {He was at the bottom and kept me safe the whole time}

3 -  I don't like chocolate. {It has been growing on me}. BUT I love candy. all sugar, sweet candy. My favorites are skittles and mike and ikes.

 

Three items on your “bucket list”:

1 - Go to New York and visit the Statue of Liberty. I've always wanted to go there.
2 - Go to Disneyland.
3 - Go on a Cruise...to anywhere.

{hmmm, interesting all my bucket lists are travel, probably because we NEVER go anywhere}

    

Three things about you like about yourself (features or qualities):

1-  I'm organized and very productive. I accomplish so much every day. {sometimes I need to learn to slow down, but I feel good when I get so much done}.

2- I have GREAT hair. I can do anything I want to with it. It's cute short, long or in between. {and I've had it every style!}

3 - I am all caught up on my scrapbooks. {really, don't hit me}

   

Three struggles in your life:

 

1 - Finances. We have always struggled having enough. My husband graduated from college 2 years ago. We are hoping our future looks brighter with his degree.

2 - Infertility. I have PCOS. We were blessed with a miracle child 12 years ago. We are so lucky to have him. He is such a sweet boy. We have struggled with not being able to have any other children, but we have faith that God is aware of our struggles and we will be blessed for being faithful and trusting in his plan for us.

3 - Balance. I can never seem to get it all together. Between work, being mom, being wife and being friend, I have such a hard time finding balance in my life. If you have any suggestions...let me know!! 

   

In addition to God and family what are three things that you love:

1- Diet Coke. I know it's SO bad for you...but I seriously LOVE it.
 

2 - Sunshine. I LOVE seeing the sunshine. It makes me happy.

3 - Mexican food. ANYTHING Mexican will do, but I love Mi Ranchitos. {a little Mexican place in Utah} 

Brag for a minute.  What are three things that you're really good at:

 Anything crafty or creative. I love being able to create and make things. I repurpose, remake, and change whatever I don't love. I make most of the "stuff" around my house. I love to scrapbook and create memories for my family. I have 5 blogs {family blog, recipe blog, crafty blog, Project 365 Blog and Scrapbooking blog} and I keep them updated {most of the time} with what is going on my life. I am grateful to be an inspiration to the women in my life. I hope to share my talents and abilities with everyone I meet.

Lemon Lime Tartlets

I LOVE these tartlets!!! I usually eat about 10!!

 You can make them as a lemon/lime combo, or lemon or lime alone. {they are awesome either way} If you decide to do just lemon, replace the lime juice with more lemon juice/zest, and vice versa for just lime.

1 package Refrigerator Sugar Cookie Dough (16.5 oz)
1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk (14 oz)
1 Cream Cheese (8 oz), softened
2 Cups Cool Whip, thawed
1/4 Cup Lemon Juice
2 tsp. Lemon Peel, zested
1/4 Cup Lime Juice
2 tsp. Lime Peel, zested
Additional Lemon & Lime Slices, for decorating

Pre heat oven to 325 degrees. Paper line 24 muffin cups. Cut cookie dough into 24 even slices (some dough will come pre-scored) and place one slice in each muffin tin. Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until cookies start to slightly brown (cookies will puff up). Cool completely in pan on wire rack.

Beat sweetened condensed milk and cream cheese in mixer. Gently fold in cool whipped topping. Divide mixture into 2 medium bowls. Add lemon juice and peel to one bowl, and lime juice and peel to the other bowl. Spoon about 3 tbsp. of lemon mixture into cooled cookie cups, then top with about 3 tbsp. of the lime mixture. Top with sliced lemon or lime quarters for decoration. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight. Enjoy... I know you will!! These are a perfect summer treat! tweet, tweet let's meet: Gwen Pogue

I met Gwen a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away... otherwise known as Louisiana.  Gwen was one of the first people I met when we moved to Louisiana.  I liked her instantly.  She's warm and funny, easy going and so fun to hang out with. 

I later got to serve with Gwen in the Relief Society Presidency in our ward.  She was a great President to work with and I learned a lot from her.  A year or so after that I got to work with her daughter Ivy in my Young Women's class and grew to love her family even more.

Some of my favorite Gwen memories:

Our scrapbook weekend in Mandeville, LA... five us crammed in a small hotel room and Gwen got to sleep in the kitchen on a lumpy bumpy fold out bed.  We laughed all weekend long.

Attending her daughter Ivy's wedding.  Well actually I missed the wedding because we got lost on the way to the Houston temple.  But Andrea snuck me in to the Bridal room and I got to see Ivy and Gwen and pretend that I actually made it to the wedding :)

ETA: Gwen reminded me of another memory... so so funny... when we were working together in Relief Society we held a baby shower for a woman at church.  She had just joined our church... was a young (21 years old) single mom with four kids.  The new baby (whose name was Sheila... which I thought was so weird at the time... a baby named Sheila) had six fingers... they tied a string around the baby's sixth finger so that the extra finger would fall off.  The shower was at this woman's apartment and we invited a bunch of people but only Gwen and I and the two sister missionaries showed up.  The whole thing was so so awkward.  I die laughing everytime I think about it.  I'm sure I have pictures somewhere.  Thanks for reminding me Gwen!  too funny!

I'm so grateful to have met Gwen so many years ago... I consider her a dear dear friend and am a better person for knowing her!!

Tell us about yourself?

I’m Gwen, quickly approaching my 49^th birthday and enjoying life.  I grew up in Louisiana, married my high-school sweetheart and have four wonderful kids and a great son-in-law.  Now I have a beautiful granddaughter, Piper and a grandson on the way!  Spent the past twenty years living in the town where I grew up.  In December 2008, my husband and I took a leap of faith and moved across the world to Saudi Arabia.  It’s been an adventure, to say the least.

Three favorite trips you’ve taken:

1.      Rome!  Awesome to see the ancient ruins, the Coliseum, etc. and walk the cobblestone streets that I’ve always imagined.  It did not disappoint! (2009)

2.     Thailand!  Took a plane ride to Bangkok for a few days then to Chang Rey and Chang Mai.  We even got to go into Burma and Laos.  Met the “long-neck people”, rode elephants. Truly the trip of a life-time. 

3.     Multiple trips to DisneyWorld!  I love all things Disney.  The most recent trip was this past Christmas with all of Brad’s family, all our kids and granddaughter, Piper!

 

Three things people don’t usually know about you?

1.      I served an LDS mission to Utah, Salt Lake City North….way back in the day. (83-85)

2.     My middle name is Elizabeth.  It is also my mother’s middle name, as well as my daughter’s and granddaughter’s.

3.     I love McDonalds Egg McMuffins…..alot!

 

Items on your “bucket list”:

 I want to learn to quilt.  I love patterns and fabric.  I also love cozy quilts.  Lots of my new friends in Saudi quilt so I’m going to learn.

 I want to take a girl’s trip to New York City.  Daughters, friends, whoever wants to go! 

     

Three things about you like about yourself (features or qualities):

1.      I like that I usually have a positive attitude.

2.     I like that I am not so structured and can change plans on a dime.

3.     I like that I am dependable.

  

Three struggles in your life?

 1.    I struggle with weight…probably always will.

2.     I struggle with worrying about things I cannot change or control.

3.     I struggle with living so far away from friends and family.

 

In addition to God and family what are three things that you love:

1.      I love American Idol!

2.     I love my Kindle and all the fun books I download and read.

3.     I love traveling and seeing different cultures and ways of life.

 

Brag for a minute. What are you really good at? 

I want to brag for just a sec about how I was able to uproot from life as I knew it in Louisiana and have enough faith to move, literally, across the world.  I never thought I could do it, but I DID and I even impressed myself.  Although it’s been hard in some ways, it’s been wonderful in many!  We can do hard and scary things.

 

Please share with us a favorite recipe:

Ooey-Gooey Butter Cake

1 package yellow cake mix

4 eggs

1 C. butter

2 C. powdered sugar

8 oz. cream cheese

Preheat oven to 350 and butter one 9x13 pan.

Melt  the butter slightly and mix it with 2 of the eggs and cake mix.  Pour batter into prepared pan.  Mix the remaining 2 eggs with the cream cheese and powdered sugar. Pour this mixture evenly over the first mixture.  Do not stir. 

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.  Don’t overcook.

Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

I've known Catherine through the scrapbook world for a million years (or so it seems)... I used to get to see her cute scrapbook pages when I worked at Simple Scrapbooks Magazine (RIP)... I came across her blog when we moved to Texas and I've been a super fan ever since!

I actually met Catherine in a shuttle van on the way to the CK Portland show years ago... I totally remember chatting with her (all though I'm sure I sounded lame... I was so tired for an overnight flight)... but at the time I didn't realize I was talking to "the" Catherine Allan... I didn't make the connection until a couple of years later when Catherine told me we'd in real life :)

I want to be like Catherine when I grow up... a big family, live in the country and a total super mom.

She's been so generous to me over the years... sending packages when I had my baby... contributing to my Family Service Projects.

I don't know that our paths will cross in real life very often but I consider her a dear friend.

Tell us about yourself?
I'm a 50-something SAHM with a mostly empty nest. I have 5 boys and one girl. Three of the boys are married and I have 3 7/8 grandbabies. One of my sons and my daughter are still at home.

Three favorite trips you’ve taken:
1--Any trip to Victoria, BC (I've been several times)
2--A family trip to upstate New York and down through Gettysburg
3--A trip with my grown sisters and my mom just a few years ago to Disneyland. There's just something about 4 grown women hee-hawing on the rides that does a body good.

Three things people don’t usually know about you?
1--I was born in Canada
2--I'm deathly afraid of heights (so much so that I couldn't go to the top of the Eiffel Tower on a trip to Europe....yeah, not my favorite trip)
3--I'm a classically trained pianist

Three items on your “bucket list”:
1--To play Ursula in a production of "The Little Mermaid"
2--To see New England in the fall
3--To go to Scotland and Ireland

Three things about you like about yourself (features or qualities):
1--My singing voice
2--I'm dependable
3--I'm usually pretty organized (although I'm noticing that I'm becoming less so as I have less children around)

Three struggles in your life?
1--The premature birth of my 5th son and the resultant complications he's had to live with
2--My DH's renal cell carcinoma diagnosis when my DD was a year old. He's been cancer free for 14 years now. :)
3--My changing role as a mother as my kids leave home and get married

In addition to God and family what are three things that you love:
1--Grandbabies. I'm convinced that they are the reward for raising children....all the perks with none of the pressure
2--Good music
3--Times when my family can all be together. Very few and far between.

Brag for a minute.  What are three things that you're really good at?
1--I can carry a tune pretty well
2--I'm a dang good piano player
3--Singing with children and teaching them songs.

Please share a favorite recipe:

Crock Pot Nachos

• 1 lb. ground beef, cooked and drained
• 1 can refried beans
• 1 can pinto beans, undrained
• 2 Tablespoons tomato paste
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1 package taco seasoning
• 1/2 cup water
• Salt and Pepper to taste
• Tortilla chips
• Mexican salsa con queso (that orange, cheesy nacho sauce)
• Toppings of choice: chopped tomato, sour cream, lettuce, salsa, jalapenos, etc.

Combine everything except  the chips and toppings in a crock pot. Cook on high 2-3 hours. Serve over chips and with any toppings you like. You can freeze any leftover meat mixture.

Note: Do not warm the cheese sauce in the jar it comes in. It is not microwave safe.

I love the friendship I’ve made through blogging.  For the example these women are to me.   So I'm starting something new on my blog for the next little while. I realize that it might be a bit dorky... and I'm completely fine with being dorky.  I'm starting a new "get to know you" post.  Highlighting and sharing the friends who read my blog... so that you can know how cool they are too.
