Right this minute I'm posting this in the car somewhere in rural southern Utah in route to Arizona for the big Boone family reunion that happens once every three years... my dad and his 14 siblings and 300 of our closest Boone relatives (just one line of relatives... no second cousins, no third uncle once removed... just my dads siblings, their kids and their kids) :)
Its been many years since I've done a Road trip with my family... and amazingly its much the same... minus a few kids... but pretty much the same.
Things that are the same:
Leaving later than planned
The car packed beyond capacity... my dad has a knack for finding a place for everything... and by everything I mean everything... there isn't a free square inch anywhere to be found... poor Carrie has her feet on top of the ice chest and the rest of us have stuff at our feet and on our laps
Ham sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. and the only time we get to stop is for gas. If you have to go to the bathroom you best just hold it until the next gas station...
My feet are numb from all the stuff that they're having to rest on
My dad playing the license plate game
Things that are different:
I'm much older and wiser... and I have my own child with me... hooray!... but no husband with me... boo!
We are in a much nice vehicle then I ever got to do family trips in... AND air conditioning people.. Air Conditioning! You don't even know... the vehicles that I grew up with NEVER had air conditioning.
Half the amount of people... just me and the younger peeps (the others will be coming is their own cars)... and baby boy... I won't lie it is a wee bit more comfortable with five vs. ten.
DVD player/Ipods/cell phones to keep us entertained... and I have my laptop and internet card.. and yes, it does make the time go by waaaaay faster... just in case you were wondering... isn't technology WONDERFUL!
(the view behind my head)
little buddy who woke up as I was posting this... he's such a fabulous traveler... as long as I keep him fed and changed he doesn't make a peep ... although i'm pretty sure he's bored out of his mind despite all the toys I brought for him... I so adore this little one!!
Lots of fun things going on this week and lots of stories to tell I'm sure... be back soon!
Cheers!
